Beachside Town

This portfolio project is a guided project completed during the Unity Pathway: Creative Core on the Unity Learn platform.

The project specifically focuses on post-processing and other non-development elements of game development and the unity engine, including lighting, audio, cameras, shaders, and visual effects (VFX).

Throughout the project, I gained hands-on experience on post-processing techniques. I learned how to apply various effects such as bloom, color grading, and a vignette effect to create stunning visuals that enhance the overall atmosphere and mood of future game projects.

In addition to post-processing, the project also delved into the realm of lighting, where I learned how to utilize different lighting techniques, such as directional lights, spotlights, and point lights, to bring depth and realism to  game environments.

Furthermore, the project provided an introduction to shaders and VFX, enabling me to create custom visual effects and manipulate shaders to achieve desired visual styles and effects within games.

Lastly, The project also covered camera control and audio manipulation.

Through the completion of this guided project, I demonstrated proficiency in utilizing post-processing techniques, managing lighting setups, implementing audio cues, controlling cameras, and experimenting with shaders and VFX to create visually stunning and immersive game experiences.

Effects Showcase

Post Processing Effects - Effects Enabled

I incorporated various post-processing effects to enhance the visual quality and atmosphere of the scene.

Notably, I utilized tone-mapping, bloom, and vignette effects to create a captivating visual experience.

Post Processing Effects - Effects Disabled

This is how the town looked before adding post-processing.

Shader Graph - Waving Flag

One of the challenges I was tasked to do was to make a waving flag using shader graph.

By leveraging the power of Shader Graph, I was able to simulate realistic cloth movement, bringing the flag to life with dynamic waves and ripples

VFX - Chimney Smoke

In order to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and bring life and immersion to the town, I was tasked to create and implement various visual effects.

The first is for a chimney smoke vanishing into the air.

VFX - Camp Fire

The other visual effect, I was tasked to do, was to make a realistic camp fire on the beach.

Lighting - Enabled

I implemented directional lights to simulate the sun's natural illumination, creating a realistic and consistent lighting feel.

These lights cast shadows that added depth and dimension to objects within the town, enhancing the overall realism.

Lighting - Disabled

This is how the town looked before adding the lighting.

Cameras

In the project, I was tasked to implement multiple camera angles that could be easily switched with a simple click of a button in order to offer unique viewpoints and enhance the overall town showcase experience.

Audio

To enhance the overall ambiance, I added a background music track that provided a melodic backdrop to the scene. I also implemented a slider control mechanism that allowed users to adjust the volume of the background music according to their preference.

Furthermore, I introduced a soothing wave sound effect to create a serene coastal atmosphere. As well as a wind sound effect that added depth to the audio landscape and contributed to the overall ambiance.
